Our Mission

 Fostering understanding, respect, support and appropriate education for ALL children with special needs in our community. Promoting an innovative educational environment where children with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities while a community environment where ALL children are encouraged to reach their full potential.

    About Us

    What is SEPAC?

    SEPAC stands for, Special Education Parent Advisory Council. The purpose of the SEPAC is to offer support and educational opportunities to parents and families in Burlington and neighboring towns. The SEPAC serves as an advisory board to the Burlington Special Education Department, and the School Committee on matters that pertain to the education and safety of students with disabilities. The SEPAC participates in the planning, development, and evaluation of the School Committee's special education programs.  Membership is open to all parents and families of children with and without disabilities.

    How can SEPAC help you?

    SEPAC offers a support group where parents can share their experiences, knowledge and resources. The Goal of our SEPAC is to help parents assist each other as they advocate for their children and through trainings and resource sharing, assist parents in making informed decisions related to their child’s education.


    Members can direct you to the following resources:

    • Educational advocates
    • Independent evaluators
    • Available programs in Burlington Schools and community resources around Burlington
    • Medical and Therapeutic professionals in specialized fields
    • Resources concerning specific disabilities
    • Reading material, relevant workshops, trainings and seminars

    Ways to get involved:  

    • Attend meetings and workshops offered by SEPAC
    • Introduce other families and professionals in your network to the SEPAC 
    • Talk with other SEPAC families about your experience advocating for your child.  
    • Volunteer to help with an event or workshop
    • Share your network of resources to help bring new and exciting presentations to our district  
    • Donate to “Friends of the Burlington SEPAC” to help fund workshops and presentations
